Sewing Workshops at Countess Wear Village Hall, Exeter

Here are some new sewing workshops for Spring 2010

Fabric Box Making, Sunday 28th February 2010, 10am - 4pm at Countess Wear Village Hall.
If you have some scraps of beautiful fabric that are too small to use for a sewing project but too pretty to throw away then this may be the workshop for you. You will need to bring a sewing machine that does a zig zag and possibly has a drop feed facility and a darning foot that will fit the machine. We will be using pelmet viliene as the basis for the box and you will need to bring two half metre pieces of contrasting fabrics, one for the outside of the box and one for the inside. The finished box would make a lovely gift for Mother's Day or for Easter. Tuition cost £27, 12 places.

Speed Tailoring, Sunday 11th April 2010, 10am - 4pm at Countess Wear Village Hall.
A day to get familiar with some of the woven interfacings that are used in ready to wear jackets to achieve a soft but tailored look when it comes to making your own jackets. You will need to bring along your jacket pattern, fabric, sewing machine, sewing kit, a pressing cloth and your steam iron and if you can, your ironing board too as this will cut down on the queues for the ones that I have available! You may want to bring a notebook to take some notes but there will be some information about the different types of interfacings that we are going to use. An interfacing pack will be available to buy on the day, cost £15. Tuition cost £27, 12 places.

Piped Boned Bodice, Sunday 25th April 2010, 10am - 4pm at Countess Wear Village Hall.
If you have made a bodice before and want to take your skills a bit further then this one day workshop could be just the thing. If you have tried piping before and found it difficult, come and find out how easy it can be. A bodice will fit and flatter most figures and piping will define the seamlines and give a lovely contrast to your chosen bodice fabric. You will need your sewing machine with a piping/zip foot, sewing kit, pattern, fabric and lining and a contrast fabric to pipe with. Bodice canvas, fine piping cord and boning can be purchased on the day. Tuition cost £27, 12 places.
